Giuseppe Sorrenti: Understanding Inequalities from Early Childhood

At HEC Lausanne, economist Giuseppe Sorrenti analyzes how public policies can break the cycles of social inequalities from a very young age.

A specialist in public economics, Prof. Sorrenti explores the mechanisms that hinder or promote the development of human capital from early childhood.

His research shows, for example, that school programs focused on social and emotional skills have positive long-term effects. He also studies parenting styles and their connection to the socio-economic context: the more unequal the environment, the more parents tend to adopt authoritarian behaviors to limit risks.

At the same time, Giuseppe Sorrenti analyzes policies encouraging women’s participation in the labor market and has launched a study on the impact of women’s suffrage in Switzerland to understand how these advances are transforming society.
